Wati Pricing Reality Check: €59 on the Website, €500+ on the Invoice

Wati starts at $59/mo but adds ~20% markup on Meta messages, caps automation triggers, charges $4.99 for Shopify. Growth plan locks you to 3 users with no option to add more. Honest cost analysis for e-commerce teams.

Comparisons & Alternatives

☝️ The most important facts in brief

  • Base fee starts at €59/month (Growth, annual) — but the real bill runs 30–50% higher due to message markup, add-ons, and per-user fees.
  • ~20% markup on every template message above Meta's official rate — a linear cost multiplier that scales with your volume.
  • Rigid user limits: Growth = 3 users, no expansion. Pro and Business = 5 users, each additional agent costs €39–€89/month.
  • Chatbot sessions are capped (1,000–5,000/month) — after that, answer manually or buy 1,000 more triggers for €40.
  • HQ in Hong Kong: Third-country data transfer — a concrete GDPR concern for EU-based businesses.

Pricing Page vs. Reality: Two Numbers That Don't Add Up

€59 per month. That's what Wati's pricing page shows for the Growth plan on annual billing. Sounds like a fair entry point for WhatsApp marketing.

€216 per month. That's what a mid-sized D2C shop actually pays after three months — with 50,000 marketing messages, five team members, and a Shopify connection.

Everything you need to know about Wati pricing sits between those two numbers. And that's exactly what I'll walk you through now — month by month, from onboarding to the annual bill.

Day 1: What You Pay to Get Started — Growth, Pro, and Business

Wati offers three tiers. All prices on annual billing:

Plan Price/month (annual) Price/month (monthly) Users included Additional users
Growth €59 €69 3 not available
Pro €119 €149 5 €39/month
Business €279 €349 5 €89/month

All plans come with a 7-day free trial, no credit card required. There's no permanently free tier.

Growth — cheap entry, hard ceiling

€59/month for 3 users, 15,000 broadcasts, and 1,000 automation triggers. Basic Shopify included (abandoned cart, order confirmations) — the deeper integration costs extra. The key point: Growth doesn't allow any additional users. Three is the maximum. Period.

Monthly billing: €69.

Pro — for growing teams

€119/month for 5 users, unlimited broadcasts, 2,000 automation triggers, and 5 integrations including HubSpot. Plus CTWA tracking and smart retargeting. Each additional agent: €39/month. If you're using WhatsApp as a real marketing channel, you'll end up here fast.

Business — enterprise ambitions, enterprise pricing

€279/month for 5 users, 5,000 automation triggers, unlimited integrations including Salesforce, IP whitelisting, and a dedicated customer success manager. Each additional agent: €89/month — more than double the Pro rate.

One detail Wati likes to highlight: 5% discount on the message rate card. Sounds nice. But it only pays off at roughly 100,000+ messages per month. By then, the base fee and extra user costs have long eclipsed the savings.

Important: Broadcast counts may be high or "unlimited" — but the messages themselves are not included in the base fee. You pay for those separately. And that's where it gets expensive.

Month 1: The Markup That Never Stops — Wati's ~20% on Meta Messages

Since July 2025, Meta charges for WhatsApp Business API per delivered template message. Costs depend on category (marketing, utility, authentication) and recipient country. Service replies within the 24-hour window have been free since November 2024.

That's the Meta model. Now enter Wati.

Wati doesn't pass Meta rates through at 1:1. Roughly 20% markup per template message — that's in the Wati rate card. Concrete example from the Indian market: Meta charges about $0.0099 for a marketing message, Wati charges $0.0119. Markup: 20.2%.

At 1,000 messages per month, you barely notice. At 50,000 marketing messages to European recipients — where Meta rates are already higher — the markup adds up to a three-figure monthly surcharge. On top of the base fee.

Why this gets dangerous at scale

The markup is a linear cost multiplier. The more you send, the more Wati earns — without delivering additional value. Run the numbers for a Black Friday campaign: if your volume spikes 10x over a weekend, so does the Wati surcharge.

For comparison: a provider without message markup — like Chatarmin — passes Meta costs through at 1:1. Same volume, zero surcharge.

Month 3: Add-Ons, User Limits, and Chatbot Caps

A few weeks into real operations, you'll discover where the pricing page ends. Here are the costs that pile up:

User fees: the first bottleneck

Growth includes 3 users — and that's it. Need a fourth team member? You have to upgrade to Pro. In Pro, each additional agent costs €39/month. In Business, €89/month.

Example: A 10-person team on Pro pays €119 + 5 × €39 = €314/month — without sending a single message.

Shopify integration: €4.99/month extra

Yes, really. One of the most critical e-commerce integrations isn't included in the base package. Abandoned cart recovery, COD verification, and order updates cost extra. And the deeper integration — segmentation by purchase behavior, product recommendations based on order history, Klaviyo sync — doesn't work at all, or only via Zapier as a workaround. Another tool, more costs, more points of failure.

Automation triggers: the cost most people underestimate

Every time a chatbot, keyword rule, or automation fires from a customer interaction, that counts as one trigger. The limits:

Plan Triggers/month Top-up
Growth 1,000 €40/1,000
Pro 2,000 €40/1,000
Business 5,000 €40/1,000

A shop processing 10,000 orders per month — automating confirmations, shipping updates, and cart abandonment — will burn through 1,000 triggers in days. Once the quota is gone, your team answers manually — or you buy more.

Other add-ons at a glance

  • AI support agent replies: 250 included (Pro) or 1,000 (Business). Top-up: €60 per 1,000 replies.
  • Green tick verification: €50 per country — no guarantee Meta will actually grant it.
  • Custom domain: One-time €50 fee (Growth/Pro). Included in Business.
  • Dedicated server: €1,000/month (billed annually).

Month 6: Where Wati Breaks — and Where It Still Works

After six months, it's clear who Wati works for and who it doesn't.

Where Wati delivers

Small teams, low volume, international markets. If you have 2–3 people in support, operate primarily outside of Europe, and stay under 5,000 messages per month, the value proposition holds. The no-code chatbot builder is decent, the interface is simple. Reviews on Capterra and GetApp show particularly strong adoption in India, Southeast Asia, and Latin America.

Omnichannel entry point. Beyond WhatsApp, Wati supports Instagram and Facebook Messaging. If you need a simple multi-channel starter, it's a serviceable option — as long as requirements stay modest.

Mobile app. Solid app for iOS and Android. If you're a solopreneur handling support from your phone on the go, that's a genuine plus.

Quick note for beginners: The WhatsApp Business API (which Wati uses) is not the same as the free WhatsApp Business App. The API always costs money — regardless of provider. Wati provides the interface; Meta charges for the messages.

Where Wati breaks

Growing message volume. Past 50,000+ messages per month, the markup eats a meaningful chunk of your WhatsApp budget. And here's the catch: the surcharge isn't displayed transparently in any dashboard. You'll only notice it on the invoice.

Deep e-commerce integrations. Wati's Shopify connection runs through a plugin. Fine for basics. Complex flows based on customer data, segmentation by purchase behavior, product recommendations from order history — that either doesn't work or requires third-party tools. For a D2C shop treating WhatsApp as a revenue channel, that's a real limitation.

Team scaling. The 3-user wall in Growth and the €89/agent price in Business make seasonal scaling expensive. Black Friday, holiday season, summer sale — exactly when you need more people temporarily.

Month 12: The GDPR Issue That Doesn't Go Away

Wati is headquartered in Hong Kong. For B2C e-commerce businesses in the EU processing personal data via WhatsApp, that's a concrete compliance issue.

What that means in practice:

  • You need a solid data processing agreement (DPA)
  • You'll have to address third-country data transfers
  • A data protection impact assessment may be required
  • Your data protection officer will have questions

It's solvable — but it costs time, effort, and potentially legal fees. Providers based and hosted in the EU — like Chatarmin from Vienna — make this a non-issue: no third-country transfer, no standard contractual clauses, DPA ready from day one.

Wati vs. the Market: What Chatarmin Does Differently

Three points that matter most for e-commerce:

Zero markup on Meta message prices. With Chatarmin, you pay exactly what Meta charges. No surcharge, no hidden cost multiplier. At high volume, that saves you a significant amount every month.

Pro tip: When a customer comes in through a Click-to-WhatsApp Ad (CTWA), Meta grants a 72-hour window where all message categories are free — including marketing. With Chatarmin (zero markup), that's guaranteed free. With Wati, it's unclear whether the surcharge still applies in that window.

Native Shopify and Klaviyo integration. No €4.99 extra, no plugin workarounds. Segmentation by purchase behavior, automated flows based on Shopify events, Klaviyo stack sync — from day one.

WhatsApp Flows 6.0 out of the box. Native forms, CalendarPicker, NavigationLists — right inside the chat, no external landing pages. With Wati, these features typically arrive later or with limitations.

100% GDPR-compliant, made in Austria. EU servers. Company based in Vienna. DPA that holds up to scrutiny. No third-country transfers. Done.

What we don't do: publish pricing publicly on the website. We're sales-led — because every use case is different, and we build setups tailored to your volume and requirements.

The Real Annual Bill: What Wati Costs at Serious Scale

Scenario: Mid-sized D2C shop, 50,000 marketing messages/month, 8 agents, Shopify integration.

Line item Month 1 Month 6 Month 12
Pro plan base fee €119 €119 €119
Additional agents (3 × €39) €117 €117 €117
Message markup (~20% on 50k) ~€150+ ~€150+ ~€150+
Shopify add-on €4.99 €4.99 €4.99
Extra automation triggers (3,000) €120 €120 €120
Total ~€511+ ~€511+ ~€511+
Annual cost ~€6,130+

That "starting at €59/month" turns into €500+. Every month. And this scenario isn't even aggressive — 50,000 messages is a moderate volume for a growing e-commerce shop.

My advice: Run your specific scenario before you buy. How many messages per month? How many agents? Which integrations? Once you've got the real total cost on the table, the decision usually makes itself.

Frequently Asked Questions About Wati Pricing

Is there a free version of Wati?

No. Wati doesn't offer a permanently free plan. There's a 7-day trial without a credit card. After that, plans start at €59/month (annual) or €69/month (monthly).

How much is Wati's message markup?

Wati charges approximately 20% above Meta's official template message rates. This surcharge is on top of the monthly base fee and scales linearly with your send volume.

Is the Shopify integration included in Wati's price?

No. Wati's Shopify app costs €4.99/month extra. Without it, key e-commerce features like abandoned cart recovery and automated order updates aren't available.

Can I cancel Wati monthly?

Yes. Monthly plans are available without cancellation fees. However, monthly billing is roughly 20% more expensive than annual. Already-paid periods are not refunded.

How many users are included in Wati's pricing?

Growth includes 3 users — additional agents can't be added at all. Pro and Business each include 5 users. Extra agents cost €39/month (Pro) or €89/month (Business).

Is Wati GDPR-compliant for European businesses?

Wati is headquartered in Hong Kong — meaning a third-country data transfer applies. For EU businesses, this is legally more complex than working with providers based and hosted within the EU. A legal review before signing is advisable.

What happens when my chatbot limit is reached?

Your team has to respond manually — or you purchase automation triggers in packs of 1,000 for €40/month. The quota resets monthly and doesn't roll over.

Wati vs. Twilio: which is cheaper?

Twilio is cheaper as a pure API solution (pay-as-you-go, no subscription, no markup) but requires developer expertise. Wati provides a ready-made interface, at the cost of a monthly fee plus the message surcharge.

Is the Wati Business plan worth it?

The Business plan (€279/month) offers a 5% discount on the message rate card and IP whitelisting. That only pays off at roughly 100,000+ messages per month. For most growing e-commerce businesses, the base fee and extra user costs far outweigh the discount.

Do I pay for incoming messages on Wati?

No. Incoming customer messages are free per Meta's policy. Costs only arise when you reply with template messages or send marketing broadcasts.

All prices are based on publicly available information from wati.io (as of February 2026) and may change at any time. Chatarmin has no business relationship with Wati.
